Remembrance Mass
SCIAF’s annual Remembrance Mass will take place in memory of all those touched by SCIAF’s work, both here in Scotland and around the world. The Mass takes place on 26th November at 7pm at St Aloysius Parish, Garnethill, Glasgow and will be celebrated by Archbishop Tartaglia. If you would like to attend you must book online or you can call us on 0141 354 5555 to request a place. Each household must make a separate booking. There will be a limit of 50 people allowed to attend. If you are not able to attend but would like a loved one to be remembered at the Mass please contact us on the same number or email The Mass will also be livestreamed on the SCIAF Facebook page.
New Arrangements for External and Archdiocesan second collections.
Due to Coronavirus restrictions, the Bishops have come up with new arrangements for second collections. They have decided that second collections for external agencies will be deferred until they come round again next year. Similarly, for Archdiocesan second collections, you now required, (for those who wish) to donate directly though on-line giving link to the Archdiocese. This link will always be provided a couple of weeks before the second collection is due. The link for Education Sunday 22nd November is:
COVID-19 General Update
Possible Tier 4 Restrictions
We have been advised that tier 4 restrictions may come into force in the near future (possibly this week). Should this happen, the number of people allowed at Mass will be reduced to 20 (excluding celebrant, passkeepers and stewards). This will be a difficult situation as most of our weekend Masses have over 40 people attending.
This means we would need to open a booking system for the weekend Masses but we would also add additional Masses at 6.30pm (18.30) on Saturday evening and 11.30am on Sundays. The online booking system advised by the Archdiocese is Eventbrite. This can be reached with the following link: For the full link once it is active check the parish Facebook page: stmartin's renton, or contact the Parish Priest.
If you are unable to access the internet to book your space, please call the parish house on 01389 758880 and request your space from Parish Priest. Please ensure you book a space for each person including children.
This will only be necessary if we are put into a tier 4 lockdown. As things stand at the moment, Masses will continue as before with no need to book. The obligation to attend Mass on Sunday remains suspended and weekday Masses will continue with no need to book.
Introductions to the Sunday Readings
First reading: Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20
By worldly standard the woman mentioned in this reading would hardly be classified as a talented person. Yet according to the writer she has something far more precious than jewels, namely, a loving heart and caring hands.
Responsorial Psalm 128 (127)
Psalm 128 (127) takes up the picture of family life implied in the reading from Proverbs but it generalises the teaching: O blessed are those who fear the Lord.
Second reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6
Early Christians did wonder when the end would be. Paul doesn’t know when but he does know how to live in preparation. No sleepwalking through life!
Gospel: Matthew 25:14-20
In the Old Testament, a talent was a measure of weight approximating 75 pounds weight/34kilos. In New Testament, a talent was a monetary unit roughly equal to 6,000 drachmas, greater than sixteenth years’ wages for a labourer. But our word “talent” helps us to enter into the parable.
Please pray for:
