November -  Month of Remembrance
November is the month when, by tradition, we pray for the eternal rest of our deceased relatives and friends.  This year, in all our churches, we remember especially those who have died during the pandemic.  We also pray for those who have lost someone they loved, for those who were unable to say goodbye, and for those who are suffering the pain of grief. We pray for confidence in the loving mercy of God, for faith in the Resurrection to new life, and for the hope of being reunited in God’s kingdom.

Mass of Remembrance (Month of Holy Souls)
--will be offered for all deceased parishioners of the past year on Monday 2nd November at 7.00pm. November lists now available in the porch. Please return lists to church (sacristy) or chapel house.

First Holy Communion
Congratulations to our schoolchildren of St Martin’s Primary who had their First Holy Communion this las Wednesday, 21st October 2020. Thanks too to their parents, friends, teachers, and the catechist who supported at one point or another. May the Body and Blood of Christ be for these children a fountain of living water welling up to eternal salvation.

The Sacrament of Confirmation in the time of the Covid-19 Pandemic
This Sacrament comes up here in our parish on 30th November 2020 at 7.00pm. To be presided over by the Parish Priest.

Confirmation Catechesis
In preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, our candidates are invited to 2 morning sessions on Saturday 21st and 28th November from 10.30-12.00. In these sessions we will look in more detail at the effect of the Sacrament as well as what will actually happen during the Mass itself. The sessions will take place in the Divine Mercy side chapel. Masks may be worn and social distancing, sanitising and ventilation will help ensure we are COVID safe.

The Flourish (October Edition)
The October edition of The Flourish, the Archdiocesan newspaper is available. Please collect your copy from the exit doors of the church.

Stewards and Passkeepers
Many thanks to the parish coordinator of Covid-19, all the parish stewards, passkeepers and other volunteers for your excellent, wonderful and remarkable help to the parish in helping to the keep everybody safe during all  our liturgical celebrations. Your services are very much appreciated.

St Martin: Important Notice about Social Distancing
As the infection rate in the country continues to rise it is important that we remain vigilant with social distancing. Please observe the markers on the seats and ensure you sit at your marker. If you are attending Mass as part of a couple or family please be mindful of the 2m distancing rule when choosing where to sit. If there are 2 or more of you please choose a seat where there is no one sitting in the middle of the pew and ensure you have at least 2m between your group and the next household. If there is a large group of you please choose a pew with no other family groups. Please also remember you should not sit with other households even if you are family or close friends. If we feel any group is sitting too close, the stewards will ask you to move to a more suitable seat. Please support us in keeping everyone safe and ensuring the church remains a safe place and open to everyone.

Rosary Whirlwind
The organisers of the Rosary Whirlwind have organised a National Rosary Relay on Saturday 31st October with each diocese in the UK having a dedicated hour to pray the Rosary for the defense of our people from evil. The Archdiocese of Glasgow has been given the hour from 6-7pm. We will live stream our Rosary on Facebook starting at 6pm. Please tune in to join as a parish in prayer for the protection of our community.

Respond to Scottish Government consultation to stop home abortions!
The Scottish Government is holding a consultation on whether to continue the practice of sending dangerous abortion pills to women to undergo abortions at home. We need as many pro-life people as possible to complete the Scottish Government’s questionnaire in order to stop dangerous DIY abortions becoming permanent. SPUC has prepared a briefing which gives a step by step guide to completing the questionnaire. Please go to www.spuc.org.uk/Scottish-Consultation

COVID-19 General Update
The Government on Friday 23rd October announced the new Tiered approach that will take effect from next week. They have not yet announced which areas will be in which tiers, so there is no change at present for any of our parishes. Below is what it looks like:

Introductions to the Sunday Readings

First reading: Exodus 22, 21-27
Often our own difficult experiences can help us to be truly compassionate. This was very much the case in the past as well, as we hear in this reading.

Responsorial Psalm 18(17)
Psalm 18 (17) is slightly disconcerting as a choice because other hymns take up more clearly the topic of the widow and the orphan. Perhaps the response is the key, taking us to the Gospel passage in reality: I love you, Lord, my strength.

Second reading: Philippians 1 Thessalonians 1:5-10
A word of appreciation can work wonders. As we hear Paul praise the Christians in Thessalonica, we may wonder what he would say today, to our community of faith.

 Gospel: Matthew 22:34-40
Imagine someone has asked you to put in a few words the heart of the Jesus’ teaching. What would you say?

Please pray for:
… the sick and Housebound of our parish
